Here's a great article courtesy of Mick "No
Bull" Hart. This article is taken directly from Mick's No Bull
Collection -- the best bodybuilding and steroid magazine we have
ever read, it's the only mag worth reading and absolutely the only
one we recommend.
A common problem amongst bodybuilders and other strength
athletes is that of testicular shrinkage during the prolonged use of
androgens / anabolic steroids.
This can be thought of in the
following way: the hypothalamus in the human brain has a detection
mechanism which regulates the release of many hormones which control
the production of androgens by the testes and the adrenal glands.
If this detection
mechanism detects an abnormally high amount of androgen / anabolic
steroids, which it recognises primarily as testosterone, then the
hormones responsible for testosterone release will have their
production decreased, and so the testes etc. will no longer be
stimulated by these hormones, and so will cease, or decrease,
production of natural testosterone, and so cause testicular
shrinkage.
Oestrogen
(androgens can aromatise in the body into oestrogens) have even more
of a shut-off effect upon the release of androgens via the
hypothalamus, and so we have a "double-edged" problem, with both
androgens / anabolic steroids (which are all basically androgens)
and oestrogens causing shut-down of hormonal stimulation of the
testes, and thus testicular shrinkage.
One of the best ways to
avoid this is to take some Tamoxifen (perhaps 20mg per day) in order
to stop the oestrogen, from the aromatisation of androgens, acting
upon receptors in the hypothalamus. Therefore, even though the
oestrogens are still there, their effect is blocked by the
Tamoxifen. This is also very useful to prevent gynaecomastia (bitch
tits), i.e. formation of breast tissue in the male, caused by
aromatisation of the androgens to oestrogens in the
body.
Another very good idea is to use chrysin (an isoflavone
compound, derived from plants), which prevents the formation of
oestrogen in the first place, by inhibiting the enzymes which
perform aromatisation on the androgens, and so very much reduce the
production of oestrogens from the steroids, hence reducing the
effect upon the hypothalamus, and so upon the testes. Therefore,
testicular shrinkage can be very much reduced, and so you are likely
to be preserving that part of the function of your endocrine
hormonal system.
What if
you say you don't care
about it? Well, you can probably say goodbye to getting an erection
if your own endocrine system is messed up, and you may also risk
life-long infertility. Look after your health, and you will have a
longer and happier life, and in this case, a more active sex
life.
In general, if natural testosterone production
shuts-down, then men experience problems in getting erections, or
even become impotent, whilst wanting more sex! VERY frustrating, as
you can imagine. Alternatively, sex drive may disappear completely,
or be very much reduced.
Therefore,
the message from this
article is to use Tamoxifen AND chrysin DURING, and for four or five
weeks AFTER a steroid cycle. It is then advisable to be off steroids
for as long a period of time as you were on them, before you begin
your next cycle. It is also advisable to use HCG (Human Chorionic
Gonadotrophin) both during, and for four or five weeks after a
steroid cycle. This acts directly upon the testes themselves, and
helps to keep natural testosterone production going along.
If
your testes do shrink slightly, then don't panic, as they will
return to normal upon cessation of steroid use, as long as shrinkage
is not severe: if so, stop the steroid cycle immediately by slowly
tapering down the dosages (stop injectables first, followed by
reducing oral steroid dosages).
Enjoy your bodybuilding, but remember, nobody
should consider taking anabolic steroids until they have gained
everything they can by using hard training, enough rest, a lot of
protein, and everything else from the health food store i.e. by
training naturally. This can take anything up to eight or ten years
of consistent training, i.e. you have to make bodybuilding part of
your life-style.
You are living dangerously if you don't
follow this advice (see previous articles in 'No Bull
Collection'), and once you are so fit,
you will experience far fewer, or no, side effects from steroids
after all these years of natural training, i.e. you have 'prepared'
your body for them.
HOW STRONG ARE YOU? POSSIBLE
POUNDAGES!
by David Gentle
The Great, Reg Park was benching 500lbs over 50 years ago!
Back a while, one of NO BULL's more astute readers suggested
to our Ed Mick, that it may be a good idea to provide his readers
with some sort of data or guide lines, to enable bodybuilders to get
at least some idea of strength standards possible for those trainers
who use, out of choice, little or perhaps no, chemical or super
supplementary aids.
Mr. Big Man - Bill Kazmaier
Everyone in the gym business has experienced the phenomena of
‘lone’ home gym lifters soon upping or even doubling exercise
poundages when they come out of the garage or bedroom and join a
real 'hard core' gymnasium.
This remarkable surge in power and potential results, not only
because it is far safer and easier to have spotters or training
buddies standing by, lifting in or taking off weights, especially in
squats or bench presses, but also because of the open friendly
rivalry or competition and encouragement such team efforts always
bring.
Simple vocal encouragement for just one example is a proven
method of increasing power and endurance, focusing the mind away
from negative thoughts and fear and redirecting energy into positive
channels.
Many moons ago, when a dollar was a dollar, when you could open a
packet of custard powder without the fire brigade and special forces
turning up, with anti- anthrax spray, I wrote an in depth article in
the now defunct BODYPOWER magazine, entitled "HOW STRONG ARE YOU?"
Bob Kennedy's Muscle Mag International also more recently ran a
whole series of body parts, along with the same demanding headline,
with plenty of examples of contemporary bodybuilders workout
poundage's, to be used by your average 'gym rat'.
Both of us, in our analysis, suggested and quoted lifts and
exercise poundage's which included many known physique champs of
which it is fairly reasonable to assume, use or used 'chemical aids'
to assist recovery or provide extra energy and muscle growth, after
all that's the whole point of such supplements.
Let us not be naive, by admitting such performance enhances have
been in general use since the late 5O's albeit not in such massive
and health threatening doses as taken today.
Those who do take such high amounts, can ignore this article and
simply continue to set as their targets the oft quoted, although at
times almost unbelievable poundage's listed in the USA glossies. But
unless such lifts are 'official', take some articles and their info
with a pinch of salt, or go write your 'wants list' to Santa
Clause.
This is not a debate or argument for or against performance
enhances, it is in the nature of all wanna be champions to seek the
extra edge, we are simply suggesting that those who prefer more
natural/healthier training methods and diets, should have a far more
realistic set of goals.
People who belong to the multi various 'all round' lifting
associations, will have immediate access to standards required for
trophies and recognition awards. Many such sets of standards evolved
from original BAWLA lists and the early days of BILL PULLUM.
The BAWLA originated back in 1911 and covered over 4O all round
lifts/exercises. Recently the A for amateur has been realistically
dropped so now it is just BWLA.
The 'Strength Set' originally consisting of the bodybuilders
favorite exercises the squat, curl and bench press soon dropped the
curl, which leant itself to too much back bending and cheating, (God
knows what the old timers would have thought of today’s ultra arched
bench pressers and lifting suits) and substituted the dead lift.
This lot ended up as 'Powerlifting', itself now fragmentated into
many, many associations and acronyms. Most basic powerlifting record
lists compare closely. Such current powerlifts along with Olympic
records for all bodyweights can be studied freely at any time by
reading the latest Guinness Book of Records at your local library.
The well established journal ‘Powerlifting USA’ has covered most
top events (including European) and is a mine of information and
training advice for those specialists.
While it is always interesting and hopefully inspirational to
read of and compare great feats of strength.
For example John Parrella (US pro-footballer) who tosses up
unaided 2x225lb dumbbells for sets of 5 reps in dumbbell bench press
(source Planet Muscle Vol 4 no 3), of 1000lbs squats and squatters
like Clark, Waddington, Hatfields et al, and similar bench presses
hitting the 700lbs mark, do not get discouraged and dump your
weights for bunji jumping.
This brief article is for your 'down to earth' average 'tank top'
who just wishes to know where he is in the muscle power map and what
sort of poundages to aim for.
We have tried to include most basic exercises in our estimates
based on a lot of practical experience (believe it or not I too
trained alone and used to 'rock up' unaided 80lb dumbbells for bench
presses) and honest analysis. So check out the chart, and wherever
you are, just aim to do better.
You already know the basic systems of using lower reps and higher
sets for building power in most muscle groups. Nor should you, when
seeking strength, train too often, twice a week is plenty. Take time
to recover, eat well, sleep well and hey presto, power will come.
Finally we are interested in some sort of positive
response/input. (I use negative mail for cat litter). Let Mick or me
know at No Bull about YOUR lifting power, pictures of yourself or
training partners and progress achieved. Happy humping!
More Body Building Basics -
Importance of Protein in the Post-Workout Meal
Almost everyone realizes that athletes require greater
amounts of protein than sedentary individuals. In addition to eating
more protein, athletes also need to be aware of the times of day in
which they consume both different types and amounts of protein. The
post-workout meal is one of the most important times and meals of
the day regarding protein intake. Researchers have shown that eating
a protein-rich meal at this time can greatly increase protein
synthesis and possibly muscle growth.
In one study, subjects
were given an intravenous protein supplement following either a
period of exercise or rest. Protein synthesis was then measured in
each subject to determine how the different types of activities
affected protein synthesis. Results from the study concluded that
protein synthesis was doubled in the subjects who had just performed
a session of strength-training exercise. The researchers in this
study concluded that this was more than likely due to the increase
in blood flow to the subject's muscles following
exercise.
Applications
Since the rate of
protein synthesis and possibly muscle growth can double when protein
is consumed post-workout, it is imperative that a meal containing
quality proteins be consumed at this time. When determining protein
types for a post-workout meal, whey protein makes an excellent
choice. The reason for this is that whey protein contains the best
amino acid profile of all protein types and is also absorbed at a
very rapid rate by the body.
Insulin Usage - Good or
Bad?
By Mick Hart
An extract from Mick Hart's
excellent best selling steroid book "Steroids: The Layman's Guide
II"
If you have turned to this
page in the hope that you will be able to pick up the latest methods
of taking insulin whilst training, then I am afraid that you are
going to be greatley disappointed indeed. I am sorry, you have not
been misled, hence the reason for this explanation at the beginning
of this chapter.
My point? Well, I have been
in this sport for many many years now and I am proud to say
(touching wood at this moment) I have NEVER in all that time had any
serious problems with taking steroids that could be regarded as
news. The odd spotty zit, a lack of the old hardy har har, a
headache from the tablets that a once spunk bubble of an arse hole
dealer sold me years ago, that turned out to be something from his
mums medicine cabinet throw out day (he ended up eating them all),
but really nothing at to be bothered about.
(Ahem - please
read the next few lines a couple of times as it is a JOKE and I want
you to fucking well understand that please - thank you!) I have
had more pricks (needles people) in my arse than a second hand
dartboard and Old Mother Hubbards pin cushion! (End of
joke!)
Steroids, yep I know them
just about as good as anyone around this shit tip world and that is
a fact. Most of ‘em know the scientific names off by heart better
than me any day and can even recite their basic molecular structure
whilst snapping their knackers together like a pair of Spanish
maracas (spell?) but really, look at the picture of my face my
friend! Does it look as if I give a fuck? I know what most gears
feel like and what they do when they are in the body, what
combinations and how they react in almost ALL cycles and stacks.
Why? Because I have took them, trained on them for myself and
hundreds of champs over the world. Hey, anyone can read a book and
learn a word or two - agree?
What I can say is that I
have not taken this insulin shit and trained on it. You can now ask
yourselves how can he comment about it?” I can, simply because I
have seen so many people try and get their levels as close to the
norm as possible. It is my own opinion and I am not giving you
advice on how to take it, I am saying that if you do, then here are
the problems that CAN occur - and do! I don’t know the totally
correct or indeed safest way to advise on something that can cause
so much problems to a healthy body when there is no need for it at
all. Like many other people, I would seek the BEST advice possible
if I could. Even then, could I be that sure? Of course not - that is
why the margins are so small. Too risky me old sparras. Why fuck up
the blood sugar level that is most likely working perfectly well?
You have no idea how quick you can die using this shit IF you get it
wrong. What price low fat?
I know the next thoughts of
the anti-steroid league even before they have finished reading this
bit. Could it be something like,“How can he say that about insulin
for instance when he (and many others like him) pump themselves full
of the steroid shit that they do?”
Easy really, please tell
me why the streets are not lined with dead bodybuilders who have
DIRECTLY died as a result of taking steroids? Anyone’s hand up?
Thought not. Now piss off please! Line up the heroin has beens and
'are nows will ya?. This should be fun.
There has been, however,
many unfortunate people who have died as a result of taking OTHER
shit ALONG with steroids and we all know it. The press get a hold of
it and it’s bye bye bodybuilding reputation once again. As we are
about to look at the insulin problem as we know it now, I can say
that there has been quite a few deaths because of it and yet we only
get to know about it when a bodybuilder dies! How
come?
Steroids were said to be so
bad for us long ago even before anyone they had really tested them.
They also said that we would suffer in time to come as we
bodybuilders did not know what the long term side effects of
steroids would be. Apparently, we were to suffer and find out
ourselves in time. I think the twat who said that was writing the
paper with his top lip stapled up. He or she, wrote it so long ago
that I don’t think that there has been anything on this planet that
has had more of a chance to wait for bad side effects than steroids
have.
Oh by the way, during the
time that they were waiting to laugh there bollocks of at us and see
us mutate into big bollocked crazy, headed psychotic sex crazed
maniacs; steroids have been healing people as well for all these
years. What a shit side effect eh? Ah well, I must away and check
the size of my gonads and also get on with the task of explaining to
you lot how easy it is for you to drop down dead quicker than a
whores knickers if you are stupid enough to use insulin. Here we
go......
What is
Insulin?
Millions of people around the world who suffer
from Diabetes, rely on insulin every day in order to keep them
alive. They need this because Diabetes occurs when the gland that
lies behind the stomach, called the pancreas, fails to produce
sufficient insulin which is needed to handle the starches and sugars
(carbs) that we eat. These in turn are broken down to a sugar
substance called glucose; insulin is needed to convert glucose to
energy. If our bodies cannot produce it naturally, then many
problems can occur. Please bear with me whilst I try and
explain the care that diabetics HAVE to take in order to live an
ordinary day to day life AND stay alive.
Basically what happens is
that without the necessary amounts of insulin required, the levels
of glucose in the blood rises and actually spills over into the
urine which in turn causes large volumes of urine to be passed. The
body, not being able to convert the glucose to energy, then becomes
excessively tired. If this problem is not treated with insulin,
several other symptoms then can follow immediately which usually
are: extreme thirst, vomiting and drowsiness for a
start.
‘Hypo’
Dangers
The extreme problem that diabetics have to watch
out for is a ‘Hypo’ or an Insulin Reaction. ‘Hypo’ is short for
hypoglycaemia which actually means ‘low blood sugar’. I have been
told that ‘Hypos’ can actually occur for no apparent reason but are
mainly brought on if a sufferer also either does one or more of the
following:
Takes more exercise than
they normally would. Eat less than the correct dietary allowance
required. Miss or postpone a meal or snack. INJECT THE WRONG DOSE OF
INSULIN!
I feel that this section is
so important that all of the other symptoms need highlighting also.
These can be as follows: Blurred vision - excitement - tingling
sensations in lips, fingers or tongue - weakness -
confusion - pallor - hunger - nervousness - sweating -irritability
and palpitations.
I have highlighted the
fourth reason in the ‘Hypos Dangers’ section purely for the
bodybuilders alone. Not to imply that the 1, 2 and 3 are no less
important to diabetics, but they are NOT as important to
non-diabetics as is the last one to us (or any other non-diabetic
sufferer of course). The main reason for this section on insulin and
it’s use in this sport is to explain simply that hypoglycaemia can
be caused simply by getting the dosage WRONG!
One other terrible side
effect from an incorrect dosage of insulin is that you could slip
into a coma from which death can also occur. With the greatest of
respect to all those who suffer from Diabetes, I have learned
longer?
It is as simple as this, if
your calculations are wrong by the slightest margins you can die -
period! You could fall into a coma and also die, the margin of error
is that close.
Finally, you must consider
this. Maybe one of the reasons you have bought this book is to find
out different methods such as the usage of insulin etc. I am sorry
if I have disappointed you but I cannot advise on something that I
know personally we do not need in this sport. The risks are too
high. Even if you were to consult your local G.P. and ask for advise
on the use of insulin whilst bodybuilding, he too would not be able
to be that accurate.
Should the pro’s deem it
necessary, then that is up to them. To be honest, life
at the top cannot be that good especially when living on borrowed
time is not an option.

very competetive prices and so much detailed information about
Anabolic Steroid that we give them our full recommendation. Click here to go to their
